August 24th, 2006:
The trading system was updated today. Unfortunately for this update, all the Pokémon up for trade had to be removed and added into each member's Pokemon box. I appologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused, but the update needed to be done.
July 15th, 2006:
Metallic Pokémon have been added to the arena. This is another special type of Pokémon similar to Shiny and Dark Pokémon. When you find a Pokémon, there's a chance that it will be a Metallic Pokémon! Metallic Pokémon are special because they cannot be paralyzed, confused, etc. The speed of the site will hopefully improve soon since I ordered another server which will hopefully be set up early next week. Sorry to those of you who have been frustrated with the site during busy times of the day, it's been difficult at times to keep up with the growing popularity.
May 8th, 2006:
Five more maps have been added to the site, the first three extend the grass maps and the other two maps are of the interior of the building on one of the new grass maps. Computer trainers have also been added to the maps, you'll find them outlined in orange. These are just meant to help you train your team, and they range from easy to quite difficult to beat. There's just a few now, but I'll be adding more soon!
April 25th, 2006:
A small ice cave map has been added to the site, so now there's even more room to explore and look for Pokemon. Plus you can now change the attacks on your Pokemon, but I made it quite expensive so that it would not be easy to just give all your Pokemon the best attacks in the game. This way you need to work hard to earn them, and it keeps the game more balanced. I've also put Dratinice and Dratinire back onto the maps, so you can again find these unique Pokemon, along with another new, but similar unique Pokemon: Dratinilic!
April 10th, 2006:
Version 5 has arrived! I managed to get a lot more time to work on it than I expected, so I was able to get it up much sooner than I expected. As promised, the two big additions are live battles and a trading system. I'll be working on more maps and more features in the coming weeks.
April 1st, 2006:
All the Pokemon have finally been added to the site. It took me a little longer than I thought, but there were more missing than I thought too. Version 5 is coming along nicely, its biggest features will be live battles and a trading system!
March 16th, 2006:
A new cave map has been added to the site, which includes another four maps to explore with new and different Pokemon appearing only in the caves! I've also been working hard on making some small improvements around the site. This month marks the start of development version 5 of the arena, which will hopefully arrive in about a month.
March 8th, 2006:
Two big additions to the site today - the first is a new message board for the site. I had originally intended on writing a message board to integrate with the site, but I eventually decided to purchase one instead. Writing my own seemed like reinventing the wheel - why do it when someone has already done it better. The second is the addition of Dark Pokemon to the arena. Now when you find a Pokemon, there's a chance that it will be the dark version of that Pokemon.
March 5th, 2006:
Another three new maps have been added, which will hopefully help with how crowded the maps have become lately. Most of the Pokemon that have been missing from the site have been added, with the remaining few to be added in the next few days.
November 27th, 2005:
I've moved the site to a faster server and optimized some of the inner workings of the site, so the site should be running faster lately. One problem with continuing to gain popularity and users is that more and more stress is put on the site's server. I'll be working on some new things when this semester of school is over, so look for new things after the new year.
February 28th, 2005:
Three new maps have been added to the site, greatly expanding the amount of area there is to explore on the site. Hopefully now the maps won't have to be quite as crowded as before.
January 21st, 2005:
Those of you who have been waiting for some new things to come to Pokemon Crater can rejoice. I plan to use much of next couple weeks of vacation working on the site, finishing up some things that have been needing it, as well as adding some new maps and other things, so keep checking back for new stuff!
August 20th, 2004:
Version 4 of the arena has arrived, along with a new look for the web site! I hope everyone likes the new version better than the old one. The biggest feature is the addition of the community maps, where you can move around searching for Pokemon, as well as see all the other members on that map. Also as I mentioned before, each person now uses a team of six Pokemon to battle. As an added bonus, the speed of the site is greatly improved in this version.
August 14th, 2004:
There have been virtually no updates to the arena in the last few months because I have been writing version 4 of the arena. The good news is that I'm nearly done with it! Users will now be able to move around on the map as a sprite and see all the other users on the same map, as well as have the ability to battle users near them. Each person will now also use a team of six Pokemon, rather than just one Pokemon at a time. Those are just the big changes, but there are many others in store!
February 10th, 2004:
I'm sure many of you noticed that I added the Hoenn gymleaders and elite four to the arena some time last week, and now today the new R/S map is up.
January 20th, 2004:
I appologize for the server being down or slow the last week or so. Due to some unavoidable problems a lot of reworking had to be done, thus the down time and extreme slowness. The site should now be fast again, if not faster than ever before.
I reworked the formula for the experience calculation. You should notice some difference in the amount of experience gained. Overall it will be somewhat harder to gain experience than it was in the past (ie: it will not be as benificial to battle against Pokemon that are many, many levels above your own, winning through the use of many potions). I also am just about done with the new map, I have the map made, but now I just have to add the Pokemon to the map.
December 15th, 2003:
I added some more Pokemon to maps that already existed, since some of them didn't have many on it and could use some more. The names of the new added Pokemon are in bold below the map. Now I'll work on the new map I promised so long ago, and hopefully have that up very soon.
December 10th, 2003:
I apologize for not having added another map yet. Between school, work, and friends I haven't had much time to work on the site. When I do have time, lately most of it has gone toward bug fixes and other small improvements. I promise that I will add some of the missing Pokemon to exisiting maps, and hopefully over the next couple weeks I'll have time to make a new map since I'll be done with classes.
October 12th, 2003:
I'm currently in the process of making another map. Keep an eye out in the next few weeks.
July 15th, 2003:
All the Shiny Pokemon have been added to the arena. Now whenever you find a Pokemon on any map, there's a chance that it will be a Shiny Pokemon instead of a regular one! I'm working on even more Ruby/Sapphire Pokemon and I hope to add them soon.
June 26th, 2003:
Some of the Pokémon from Ruby and Sapphire versions have been added and more are on their way. Also be on the look out for some new Shiny Pokémon.
April 26th, 2003:
New Pokémon from Ruby and Sapphire versions will be coming soon! Plus some of the older Pokémon you've been waiting for along with some other features!
December 16th, 2002:
The Pokemon images used throughout the site have now been updated. Personally I think they look much better than the older, smaller images. I hope everyone else likes them too!
December 10th, 2002:
Due to a major server problem, I was forced to move pokemoncrater.com to a new server. However, I was unable to get the member files from the old server, so all I had was the backup made on September 17th, 2002. Unfortunately, any accounts made or anything done after that date has now been lost. So if you signed up after that date, please sign up again and start raising some more Pokémon. If you had an account before that date, you'll still have an account, but any training done after September 17th will also be lost. I appologize for this, and I assure you in the future that backups will now be performed at least once a week to prevent this from happening again.
September 21st, 2002:
I've added a new style color feature that allows you to change the color of the site to either green, blue, purple, or default red. This allows you to add a bit of personal taste to your account.
August 7th, 2002:
The Image Gallery is now open with just over 1000 images. I'll be slowly adding more as I find them in the coming weeks.
August 5th, 2002:
I've added yet another map for catching Pokemon. On this map you can catch all 26 Unowns, Smoochum, Murkrow, Remoraid, Delibird, and more! Sorry it has taken so long for this map to be made, I've just been extremely busy trying to make the site load faster, which I seem to have now accomplished. The entire site should be very fast now.
July 17th, 2002:
Don't worry, I have not forgotten about the site, I am working on new features right now, and they should be up withing the next week!
May 4th, 2002:
Another map for catching Pokemon has been added to the arena, and another one should be added soon. With this new map many more Pokemon where added to the arena, including Tyrogue, Sunkern, Slowpoke, Phanpy, and more! There is also another hut on this map which may contain something hidden...
April 9th, 2002:
The Pokémon Crater returns with an all new layout and Battle Arena! An image gallery will be coming soon with thousands of Pokemon images from all over the net.
